The noise from nearby construction sites is remarkable.
13.05 Two guitar meetings this morning: full circle circulating, dividing the circle into 2 & 3 groups, circulating in basic & variegated forms, free note choice & defined C major. C major tends to slow things down a bit, and sometimes quite a lot, but tighter mouths really helped things along.
At the end of the first meeting, we split into 3 groups, which returned to the full circle to present their work, after an Alexander lie-down. Then, dividing into a different 3 groups: the first, of 6 high fliers. The LCG6 demonstrated a characteristic of a high flier: the ability to whizz. Three good whizzes. The Small But Honest group plus Buddy Ignacio seek to develop their fingerboard knowledge & competency of C major into 2 octaves, but beginning with one octave. The Group of Twelve are addressing circulating fluency in the basic forms, before moving to address circulating fluency in C major.
Lunch at 13.15.
14.56 Zum played at lunch, although their food was in some danger of being eaten while their attention was on performing.
Good comments & questions at lunch.
Q: Attention: why is it recommended that we put part of our attention on a particular (point, or part of the body)?
Quick answer:
This addresses the division of attention; part of our attention remains on holding the form.
Q: When I extended my attention into the whole of the room today, the room did not feel as strong as yesterday. Why?
A: Perhaps because yesterday you got a hit on the room, and expected to get as strong a hit today. Yesterday was innocent; today there is expectation.
(Another person noted that today they got a hit on the room).
Discussion of how best to approach our work this afternoon.
20.16 Personal meetings at 17.00.
Performance by The Whizzers (aka The LCG6) & Zum. While fumihito was away from the table, his cauliflower cheese was examined in detail, and tasted frequently, by a visiting fly.
A French announcement at dinner, c. 19.20, calling for 3 volunteers to do the washing up, specifying they meet at 19.30 to begin. This ignored the small spoon, placed for dessert; and overlooked the possibility of comments & questions on the day’s work.
This evening: it was decided to work in the three sub-groups of the Circle.
A mosquito came in to develop a relationship as I was typing this.
21.42 Work with The Whizzers: a simple 4 note figure, extended to 6 notes; then 24 notes by developing variations. Related parts were distributed & reasonably whizzed. When put together, this will have audiences on the feet shouting it’s a whizzer! Unless they are from Perugia, that is. The Small But Honest group were taking a break when I arrived, and the Group of 12 took a break as soon as I walked in.
22.48 A return visit to all 3 groups. There were good whizzings in the Small But Honest & Group of 12. I was called back to look at a detail in a figure given to The Whizzers.
